The best way to stack and store your firewood

Storing your firewood correctly is an essential part of making sure you always have high-quality logs and get the most out of every fire. When stored properly, your wood stays perfectly dry and you prevent mould from taking hold. 

Once you have bought your firewood, it is important to preserve its quality so your burning experience stays at its best. A key part of this is stacking it correctly in your log store. By stacking your firewood the right way, you ensure that:

• No moisture seeps into your firewood.
• Air can circulate freely through the logs.
• The moisture content remains below 20%.

The ideal spots are those where moisture has no chance of getting in. Your garage can work well, as it is usually reasonably insulated and tends to stay dry. An even better option is to store your logs under a covered area in the garden. Here, the breeze can blow through the wood and keep it nicely dry.

By stacking your firewood at least 10 cm off the ground and ensuring your log store has a roof or overhang, you prevent moisture from penetrating the wood. Moisture is harmful to kiln dried logs because it stops them from burning fully — affecting both your health and the environment. We recommend using a log store.

Stack your firewood in a way that allows air to flow between the logs. Airflow provides extra ventilation, which has a positive effect on keeping your Ready to Burn logs in peak condition. Try to stack the logs as loosely as possible so that the breeze can easily pass between them.
