Appallingly poor service and a complete lack of customer-friendliness! I ordered firewood and received a proper confirmation with a clear delivery date and time. I took the day off specifically for this, only to spend the whole afternoon waiting for nothing. I didn’t see a soul, there was no delivery and no message. When I contacted customer service, I was spoken to in a downright rude manner. What turned out to be the case? The delivery time had suddenly been changed to the evening shortly beforehand. Apparently, this had not been properly discussed with us. An evening delivery is absolutely out of the question for us. Unloading timber onto the pavement in the dark and then carrying it into the garden is simply not feasible. However, I couldn’t count on any understanding or a solution. I was told to sort it out with the delivery company myself. Mistakes can happen, but the way you subsequently deal with your customers says everything about a company. No apologies, no understanding and no willingness whatsoever to work things out. I’ve lost a free afternoon and am left with a lot of frustration. A very disappointing experience for me. Unfortunately, honouring agreements and treating customers with respect do not seem to be a priority here.
Everything went smoothly, from placing the order to delivery and unloading at the desired location. The delivery date was also adjusted to suit our holiday plans. The wood is in very good condition and, so far at least, has burnt very well.

What a crate of kiln dried logs is

A crate is a wooden frame on a pallet, filled with split logs stacked by hand rather than tipped in loose. Stacking matters more than it sounds: you can see exactly what you are buying, the logs travel without breaking up, and air keeps moving through the stack so the wood stays dry between delivery and your fire. Everything in our crates comes from the same kiln dried logs range, dried to under 20% moisture. Half crate or full crate

A half crate suits a stove used a few evenings a week, or a first order if you are still working out how much you burn. A full crate is the lower price per log and covers an average household for most of a heating season. Crates, loads, bags and cubic metres are all measured differently by different sellers in the UK, which makes price comparison harder than it should be, so this piece on UK firewood volumes is worth two minutes before you decide. If you would rather not have a crate on the drive at all, log nets are the smaller alternative.

Which wood in your crate

Oak logs give the longest, slowest burn and suit a long evening or an overnight burn. Ash logs light the easiest and burn bright, which makes them the safest all rounder. Beech and hornbeam logs sit between the two and throw a lot of heat, so they are the choice for a pizza oven or a hot tub. Delivery and storage

Crates travel on a pallet network and are delivered kerbside, with a slot booked with you in advance. Full timescales are on our delivery page. Once it arrives, keep the crate off wet ground and under cover with the sides open, or move the logs into a log store. Are kiln dried logs better?

For a stove or a fireplace, yes. Kiln dried logs sit under 20% moisture, so they light in minutes and give heat straight away. Air dried or freshly felled wood can hold 30% to 60% water, which has to boil off first, and that is what causes a smoky fire, black glass and tar in the flue.

How much should I pay for kiln dried logs?

Compare on price per cubic metre rather than price per crate or bag, because sellers use different units. A full crate is always cheaper per log than a half crate, and both are cheaper per log than buying log nets.

How much is a tonne of kiln dried logs?

Weight is a poor measure for firewood, because dry wood weighs less than wet wood for the same amount of heat. That is why we sell by crate and by cubic metre, and why the same tonnage can mean very different amounts of usable fuel. UK firewood volumes explains the difference.

How long does a crate of kiln dried logs last?

A full crate lasts an average household most of a heating season with a stove used a few evenings a week. Daily use through the winter is closer to one and a half crates.
