Customer reviews about Kiln dried logs

Very satisfied!

I ordered the bags for the first time and I’ll definitely be doing it again!
Very poor communication
Review by De wilde 20/10/2026
Appallingly poor service and a complete lack of customer-friendliness! I ordered firewood and received a proper confirmation with a clear delivery date and time. I took the day off specifically for this, only to spend the whole afternoon waiting for nothing. I didn’t see a soul, there was no delivery and no message. When I contacted customer service, I was spoken to in a downright rude manner. What turned out to be the case? The delivery time had suddenly been changed to the evening shortly beforehand. Apparently, this had not been properly discussed with us. An evening delivery is absolutely out of the question for us. Unloading timber onto the pavement in the dark and then carrying it into the garden is simply not feasible. However, I couldn’t count on any understanding or a solution. I was told to sort it out with the delivery company myself. Mistakes can happen, but the way you subsequently deal with your customers says everything about a company. No apologies, no understanding and no willingness whatsoever to work things out. I’ve lost a free afternoon and am left with a lot of frustration. A very disappointing experience for me. Unfortunately, honouring agreements and treating customers with respect do not seem to be a priority here.

Neatly stacked sacks containing beautifully dried blocks of ash.

Kiln dried logs that are ready to burn, not ready to disappoint

If you've ever tried lighting a log burner with damp wood, you'll know how quickly the evening turns from cosy to frustrating. Smoky glass, blackened chimneys, half-charred logs and a fire that just won't stay lit. That's why kiln dried hardwood is the only firewood worth bringing home, and it's all we sell.

Every log on this page comes out of our kiln below 20% moisture, the threshold set by the UK's Ready to Burn scheme. That means less smoke, more heat, and a stove that stays cleaner for longer. Better for your fire, better for your chimney, better for the air around you.

Why buy your firewood from Firewood Giant?

We've been supplying logs across Europe for years and know what makes a great fire. When we launched in the UK, we kept things simple:

  • Sub-20% moisture, every batch. All our hardwood logs are kiln dried and tested before they leave us. No vague "well-seasoned" claims.
  • Ready to Burn certified. Compliant with current UK firewood regulations, so you can burn with peace of mind in Smoke Control Areas too.
  • A proper range of species. Ash for the all-rounders, oak for long winter evenings, birch when you want a quick flame. Plus beech, alder, hornbeam, mixed hardwood, and split logs for pizza ovens.
  • Sizes to suit everyone. From a single net for a weekend by the fire pit to a dumpy bag or full crate for the whole winter.
  • Fast firewood delivery. Order before 14:00 and your logs leave the same day. Free UK delivery on orders over £ 25.

Looking for logs for sale near you?

We deliver hardwood logs across the UK, so wherever you are, getting good firewood is as easy as ordering online. No driving to a garden centre, no wondering whether the wood at the petrol station is properly dried. Your logs arrive at your door, ready to burn straight out of the pack.

Getting the most out of your kiln dried logs

A great log deserves a good setup. Start with dry kindling and a couple of natural firelighters, then build a small stack of logs in a grid pattern with plenty of room for air. Keep your stove vents open until the fire is properly going.

Once your logs arrive, keep them somewhere dry and well-ventilated. A proper outdoor log store keeps them protected from rain while letting moisture escape. Even kiln dried logs can pick up damp from British weather if left exposed, so a bit of shelter goes a long way.

Looking for something with an even longer burn? Have a look at our heat logs, compressed hardwood briquettes that throw out serious heat and last for hours. They work brilliantly alongside traditional firewood.

FAQ

How long do kiln dried logs burn for?

It depends on the species, the size of the log, and your stove. As a rough guide, a standard kiln dried log will burn for around 90 minutes to 3 hours in a modern log burner. Denser hardwoods like oak burn longer (2–3 hrs), while lighter woods like birch burn faster (1–2 hrs). On an open fire you'll get through them quicker because of the higher airflow.

Are kiln dried logs worth the extra money?

For most people, yes. Kiln dried logs burn hotter, cleaner, and more efficiently than seasoned logs, so you actually need fewer of them to heat your home. They also produce less soot and tar, which means less chimney maintenance. Add the legal requirement to burn wood below 20% moisture in England and it's a fairly simple decision.

What's the difference between kiln dried and seasoned logs?

Both can in theory reach below 20% moisture, but kiln drying is faster and more reliable. Seasoned logs are air-dried outdoors for one or two years, and quality depends entirely on storage conditions. Kiln drying takes a few days to a couple of weeks in controlled heat (typically 45–80°C), and every batch can be tested to guarantee its moisture level.

Can I store kiln dried logs outside?

You can, but you'll need to do it properly. Keep your logs off the ground using pallets or a raised log store, cover the top to keep rain off, and leave the sides open for airflow. Avoid wrapping logs in plastic — they'll sweat and pick up moisture again. A dedicated log store is the easiest way to keep them at their best through a wet British winter.

Can kiln dried logs get wet?

Yes. Even though they leave us at below 20% moisture, logs will reabsorb moisture from rain, snow or damp air. They're not waterproof. If your logs do get wet, bring them indoors for a few days before burning so they can dry out again. Otherwise you'll lose most of the benefit of the kiln drying.

What is "Ready to Burn" and does it matter?

Ready to Burn is a UK government-backed certification scheme run by Woodsure. It guarantees that firewood sold in volumes under 2m³ has a moisture content below 20%. Since May 2021 it's been illegal to sell wet wood for domestic use in England, and Scotland and Wales are following suit. All our Ready to Burn logs carry the certification mark.

What's the best wood for a log burner?

Ash is hard to beat for most log burners — it lights easily, burns hot and lasts a good while. If you've got a modern Ecodesign stove and want longer burns, oak or hornbeam are excellent. For smaller stoves, birch is a great choice because it gets going quickly. Honestly, a mix is often the best approach: birch to get the fire going, then ash or oak to keep it burning.

What's the best wood for a pizza oven?

Look for short, thin splits of dense hardwood — kiln dried oak, ash and beech all work brilliantly in pizza ovens. You want wood that gets hot fast and burns clean without throwing too much smoke. Our pizza oven wood is split specifically for ovens like the Ooni and Gozney, so you don't have to chop logs down yourself.
