As for the burn quality, I can’t say anything yet given the current temperatures 😅, but I’m happy to give some positive feedback. Delivery and communication were good; the pallets were neatly stacked and there were hardly any scuffs on the packages. What struck me was the high density compared to a competitor’s product from last year. I also agree with another review that the burn holes are very clean and free of residue. I’m a bit critical of the use of Sanderit tape on every parcel; a single-wall cardboard box without any film or Sanderit would perhaps be even more environmentally friendly.

How to burn Pini Kay briquettes properly

Pini Kay briquettes are easier to use than most heat logs, but a few small habits make a big difference:

  1. Start with a normal fire. Light kindling and a few kiln dried logs as you would normally. Get a strong ember base before adding any briquettes.
  2. Add 2–3 briquettes once the fire is going. Lay them in a stack with the centre holes facing up where possible — air flows through more efficiently.
  3. Don't load too many at once. Pini Kay burns very hot. 4+ briquettes in a small stove can over-fire the appliance.

Storing your Pini Kay briquettes

Heat logs are even more sensitive to moisture than firewood. At below 10% moisture when you receive them, they'll absorb humidity from the air fast — and once a briquette picks up moisture, it'll swell, crumble and lose its shape.

Keep your briquettes in their original wrapping until you're ready to use them. Store somewhere dry: a garage, utility room or covered shed works well. If you're keeping a full pallet outside, leave the shrink wrap on at the base and add a tarp over the top (with the sides open for airflow). Don't unwrap individual packs until you're going to use them.
